The Photos

The photos

We lived in Tehran, where we enjoyed a wide circle of cosmopolitan friends of many nationalities.

I have always been an inveterate snapper. I have no training but a reasonable eye and I think that my photographs have improved as the technology has developed.

Many of my images record the activities and the excitement of the revolutionary year 1978-9. There are an especially large number of photographs of women, showing the significant role they played in the revolutionary movement.

Some of these images are of the months after the fall of the Shah, since politics did not simply stop then.

40 years on, they are a powerful reminder of a process of change that has had enormous impact inside and outside Iran.
